How to Get Facebook Ads Data to Google Data Studio

If you are running Facebook Ads campaigns, you will eventually get to a point where you need to get your Facebook Ads data to Google Data Studio. Either for you just to monitor your campaigns or either for your clients because Google Data Studio reports are easily sharable. This article will show how to solve the problem with Supermetrics for Google Data Studio.

The Process

Let’s assume your Facebook Ads campaign has been running for a while and it has already generated some data and it’s time to create a Google Data Studio report.

On Google Data Studio’s homepage, you will probably want to start with a blank report:

Then search for Facebook Ads and select the “Ad Data + Google Analytics” connector from Supermetrics:02 - Facebook Ads to Google Data Studio

Now it’s time for boring authentication steps – authorize Satan (Google) and Supermetrics to work with your data:

Now, depending on your state and whether you have tried Supermetrics for Google Data Studio in the past, you will either need to create a new connection or reauthenticate an existing connection (my case). So I’m clicking the small “Reauthenticate” link:

A new tab or pop up will open (the exact flow changes quite frequently) where you need to click to big blue button:

Then log into your Facebook account:

The tab/popup should close and you should get back to Google Data Studio where your connections are about to be loaded:

After a while you will be able to setup parameters of your Facebook Ads connection. You can select accounts (or even go for “all”), conversion window, report time of action stats, and timezone. Also, you can decide whether you want to be able change these parameters in your Google Data Studio report later. I eventually allowed all the options but the screenshots below does not show it.

What’s important to realize here is the fact that if you select one of the “Allow…” tickers, report editors will have an option to change that item in the report later. What does that mean? Well, if your client is a report editor and the report has allowed account selections, the client might be able to change the report to a different account = different client. You probably don’t want to offer this option to your client. However, in some instances, it might be helpful – e.g. your company runs multiple Facebook Ads accounts and you quickly want to switch the same report to a different account. So be wise here.

Once you are done with your parameters, you simply click “Add” at the bottom right of your screen:09 - Facebook Ads to Google Data Studio

Then you may need to allow parameter sharing (if you opted for it):

Finally, the authentication is done and you are able start building your Google Data Studio report with Facebook Ads data. My sample table below is absolutely ugly but I just wanted to demonstrate the process has worked 🙂

If you made it all the way here, there is a little surprise waiting for you. The “Ad  Data + Google Analytics” Supermetrics connector lets you connect to more data source than just to Facebook Ads. The connector can also connect to these marketing platforms:

  • Google Ads
  • Microsoft Advertising
  • Twitter Ads
  • LinkedIn Ads
  • Google Analytics
  • Pinterest Ads

…and the best part? The connector allows you to blend the data sources together so you can use all these sources in 1 visual in your Google Data Studio report. More about this here.
