Google Search Console Data to Google Sheets

How to get Google Search Console data to Google Sheets automatically and on a regular basis? That is the question this article answers. If you are an SEO pro, you may want to start downloading Search Console data to Google Sheets to create a centralize storage of our SEO data and also have it delivered by email every day.  So let’s look at how to achieve this kind of automation.

The Process

You will need to install an add-on for Google Sheets which is called Supermetrics for Google Sheets. The product allows you to download your marketing data from nearly all marketing platforms. You can try Supermetrics in a trial mode so you don’t have to pay anything upfront. Get the product from Supermetrics site:

GO TO SUPERMETRICS

Once the add-on is installed to your Google account, launch it:

Then open the Data source dropdown menu:

And find Google Search Console on the list:

Select it and authenticate if needed. Once you are logged in, it’s time to configure your report. You can configure:

  1. Sites from which to pull the data
  2. Time period
  3. Metrics – impressions, clicks, average position…
  4. Dimensions – date, site, query, protocol, hostname… Basically any column you see in the Google Search Console interface.
  5. Filters – optional
  6. Options – special config for power users

I will keep it simple. I will pull year to date period with these columns: clicks, impressions, average position, date, and site.

GO TO SUPERMETRICS

When you are ready, you need to press the big blue Get Data to Table and the data will be fetched into your Google Sheet. In my case, this is the result:

The final touch is to schedule this report so you don’t have to refresh the data manually. Notice the schedule button of the top of the side bar:

Then add a new trigger:

Then setup your schedule preferences. I want to refresh the report daily and also get an email with the results attached as PDF:

Conclusion

Having Google Search Console data automatically fed to your Google Sheets is a nice addition to your SEO daily routines. You can use the saved time which you’d otherwise spend on pulling data manually on some more important task such as thinking about your SEO strategy. Supermetrics for Google Sheets is not free product at all but given their vast connector library, it’s definitely worth every penny.
